About Sam

Son, Brother, Nephew, Partner, Friend

Sam was born on June 1st, 2001 to Susanna and Joe Sharpe. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 2019. After an incredible day on the water, with his girlfriend Liz, he was tragically killed in a boating accident on August 16, 2024.

To know Sam was to love Sam. He loved his family and cherished his relationship with his grandparents, John and Connie Vickery, and his aunt Kate Vickery, who he called BAE (best aunt ever).  He was protective and proud of his sister Abby and knew she was destined for success.

Sam worked as a carpenter at McAllaster Carpentry. He also fished for lobsters with Scott Merryman on weekends and worked at the Butcher Boys during the fall hunting season. All of his employers loved his incredible work ethic, intelligence, and positive attitude.

Sam loved hunting, fishing, and snowboarding, going to Bruins games, playing cards and cribbage. He grew up on the water running boats and loved the freedom he felt on the ocean. Sam also loved country music. Sam was an outstanding three-sport athlete, playing basketball and baseball as well. His coaches respected his grit, athleticism, and leadership.

Sam was an avid golfer, with an 8 handicap, who notched two holes in one, the first at age 13. He grew up playing golf at Mere Creek Golf Club and The Brunswick Golf Club. He was often seen on Wednesday nights scrambling at Mere Creek with Susanna and their friends.  He loved MC’s annual Glowball event with his buddies.

Sam’s laughter and smile were genuine. His work ethic was second to none. He was faithful, loving, loyal, brave, and kind, some called him a gentle giant. With his large physique, when he entered a room, he was immediately noticed and then would be seen greeting everyone he knew with a smile, handshake, or a hug. He had a firm handshake and gave the best hugs. At such a young age, he made a lasting impression on people and loved the community he was a part of and wanted to raise a family here with Liz.

The Sam Sharpe Scholarship Fund has been established in Sam’s honor.
A scholarship will be awarded annually benefitting a local high school senior wishing to attend college or trade school. The fund will also support youth athletics, including golf camps and basketball camp tuition.
